Daoist Ways of Enhancing Life I Ching, Feng Shui, and Personal Cultivation
17th International Conference on Daoist Studies
Taichung Branch Temple, Weixin Shengjiao, Taiwan
1-5 January, 2024
To activate Daoism in the contemporary world and enhance life, adepts apply a variety of practices and techniques, as modeled most vividly in the various new religions of East Asia that have integrated many of its deities, principles, and methods. Prominent among them are Daesoon Jinrihoe in Korea, Cao Dai in Vietnam, as well as Tiandi jiao and—our current host—Weixin shengjiao in Taiwan. The latter relies in particular on the I Ching (Book of Changes) to flow in harmony with time, on geomancy or Feng Shui to create optimal flow in space, and on chanting of scriptures to calm and center the mind in inner cohesion and deep sincerity. They also practice compassion and social works, supporting society in a variety of ways and working for greater peace in the nation and the world.
The conference offers a forum to explore just how these and other Daoist techniques and practices work, how they enrich and enhance life, how they make a difference in the life of the individual and society, and how they can contribute to a saner, more ecologically sound, and overall more harmonious world.
